Mundelein Community Connection
Promotion Committee
Purpose:
The Organization Committee is charged with building consensus and cooperation among all the stakeholders, establishing communications, enlisting participants and securing funding for the program to maintain long-term consistency. Tasks fall into 3 areas:
1) Communications - Newsletter, Web Site, Publications, Networking Opportunities
2) Membership & Manpower - Recruiting paid members (both businesses and individuals), assigning volunteers for all committees, and training, tracking & appreciation of volunteers
3) Fundraising - establishing diversified funding sources to enable the organization to sustain operations and implement all Work Plans
Current/Past Activities:
Membership Drive
- Paid Memberships by businesses and individuals is the core of organization. Paid commitments are more likely to result in participation and advocacy. Mailings, print publications and personal contacts have been the main source of recruiting new members. Renewals had been handled yearly by the Office Manager or Chair of the Promotion Committee.
Annual Meeting
The official program thanks outgoing Board Members, Elects New Board Members, announces the "Debbie Mullen Volunteer Of The Year Award" winner, has words of encouragement from local officials, and generally serves as a rally to begin the new year.
The Annual Meeting Work Plans can be divided into 3 areas:
1) Program: Speakers, Awards, Election, Acknowledgements
2) Event: Food & Beverage arrangements, Invitations, Reservations, Publicity, Volunteers, Registration, Set-up, Clean-up
3) Fundraising: Sponsors, Program Book, Auction items (collection, descriptions, billing, delivery)
Nominations
The Board of Directors may appoint a Nominations Committee to identify & nominate potential new Board Members to open terms. Typically, retiring Board Members are given 1st opportunity to run for a next term. Once the number of openings is determined, the Nominations Committee assesses what the new Board's strengths & weaknesses will be, and tries to identify individuals who may offer expertise in specific roles. Names of potential nominees are presented to the full Board at the February Board Meeting for approval, to be placed on the ballot at the Annual Meeting.
Golf Outing
The Annual Golf Outing served as the main fundraising activity for Mundelein Community Connection for many years. The Committee's Work Plans need to determine the date, amenities, prices, side activities, and volunteer leadership needed, to determine if the numbers of participants& sponsors can be reclaimed to make it a substantial fundraiser, or if the "social" aspect of the outing is important enough to carry on.
Other Possible Work Plan Items:
Newsletter Production & Distribution
Web Site Enhancement
Downtown Directory
Mixers / Social Activities at Downtown Businesses
